Something More Than Good Food and Wine is Coming to Tshwane
Food! Fun! Family! Friends! Fermented Beverages! Festival! Oh yes! Some of my favourite “F” words. If you’re anything like me and have an appetite for a huge variety of delectable, mouth-watering, aesthetically appealing food, a great selection of drinks and fun for everyone and I mean everyone, even the little ones…then you’ll be delighted to read further. Did that whet your appetite? Yes! For the first time in South Africa and the biggest we’ve experienced to date, Time Square South Africa in Menlyn Maine is bringing to Tshwane, THE BIGGEST CULINARY and ENTERTAINMENT FESTIVAL! It’s the Appetite Fest and it’s taking place on the 18th – 19th August 2018.
For these two days, Time Square’s Sun Arena and outdoor area will be magnificently transformed into a playground for the young and old, for the young at heart, for the food lovers, the wine lovers, and the entertainment lovers. All this and more, conveniently in one place.
No…it’s not your average food and wine event – this is going to be BIG. It’s going to be the highlight of August and probably the whole season and the year for all food and fun enthusiasts who have a taste for life. If you consider yourself a foodie or boozie of note, you will not want to miss out on this.
Some of your favourite food heros will be joining, local and international. Frontline vineyards, cheesemakers, restaurants, and producers will be there to showcase some of their best culinary offerings…not just from Tshwane, but from the country!
In the Sun Arena itself, here’s what you can expect:
- a tasteful selection of exhibitors
- craft brewers
- artisan producers
- premium drink brands
- award-winning wineries
There will be a bounty of the country’s finest foods and drinks to test-taste and to purchase, should you so wish.
You will also have the opportunity to watch, meet and greet and interact in engaging question and answer sessions with local and international celebrity chefs as they show off their culinary prowess in the food theatres. There will be book signings, master classes, and even an exclusive chef’s table.
The following culinary artists are already confirmed to appear at the Appetite Fest:

Appetite Fest – something for the adults
As this will be a family-friendly experience, there will be dedicated themed entertainment zones, something for the ladies, (don’t forget August is Woman’s Month – not just the 09th of August) kids and guys respectively. Ladies, don’t despair if you’re not a wine drinker, there will be craft gin, champagne and pamper sessions…oh and I almost forgot….sushi!
Guys, if you indulge in those things that start with the letter “B” – you’re going to love the lekker braai’s, bikes, beer, and brannas! Now imagine having all of that whilst watching some rugby – SA vs Argentina – on the BIGGEST SCREEN IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE! You don’t have to imagine…!
Appetite Fest – something for the kids
Don’t worry, the kids are covered too – they will have their own entertainment area – the Kids Own, which will be access controlled, with professional and caring childminders, for your peace of mind and their safety. Kids can look forward to:
- Jumping castles
- Jungle gyms
- Ball pit
- Face painting
- Children’s cooking theatre
- Coordination games
- Kids food court
- The Magic Company for the older
There’s More…!
Wait, that’s not all…yes, there is more! There’ll be a Streatery – Gourmet food trucks will be serving up a diversity of exciting street food. Comedians, DJ’s and live bands will keep you entertained vibrantly and authentically proudly South African festival-style. You can expect Barry Hilton, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Dan Nicholl and more announcements to follow.
Conceptualized by Time Square’s eclectic team of food, beverage and entertainment specialists, Appetite Fest is an exciting platform to explore the tastes, flavours, sights, and sounds that make living in South Africa not good but great.
“We are thrilled to announce the inauguration of Appetite Fest, a celebration of South African food and entertainment. It is all systems go as we prepare to bring it to fruition.
