The nominees for this years DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards were announced at Summer Place in Hyde Park on the 14th of August 2018. I had the pleasure of attending this media event and after it’s successful launch last year, it is fantastic to know that this year too, viewers can vote for their favourite personalities!

Bonang Matheba to host DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards
It was also announced that Bonang Matheba who was the host of last years Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards, will be the host again after the stellar role she played as host last year. She was also the host for this afternoon and she is such a natural!
When Bonang is around, rest assured that all eyes are on her – look, even I could not resist getting a photo with her…and Bonang fans will know that just one photo of Queen B isn’t adequate…you can thank me later.
About the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards
“ The DStv MVCA launched in 2017 to great fanfare,” said Reneilwe Sema, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net. “The calibre of nominees is testament to the quality shows and magnitude of the talent South Africa has to offer. With the viewers voting for the favourites in every category – this is anyone’s race.”
Said Sema: “The DStv MVCA is a way for us to give our viewers a platform to choose their favourite entertainers, who have become a significant part of their daily lives. Another important aspect of the awards is that they recognise both seasoned and new professionals, therefore contributing to the growth of Mzansi talent.”
Last year, fan favourite Thembisa Mdoda walked away with the gong for Mzansi’s ultimate favourite personality, a hotly contested category that had fans furiously casting a combined one million votes across categories.
This year there is the addition of a new category, Favourite Personality of the Year, which will be awarded to a person that has gone above and beyond to have an impact in our society.
There’s also a hardworking and dedicated community leader who will be bestowed the Life Changer award, courtesy of headline sponsor 1LIFE. This is a person who has worked tirelessly and passionately for the betterment of their community to create positive change. Not only will they be honoured at the ceremony, but will also receive a cash prize of R50 000 (Fifty Thousand Rands) as a thank you!
Kia is also back as an associate sponsor, joined by Castle Milk Stout.
Fans will be able to vote in 11 categories and the nominee with the most votes out of all the categories will be named the ultimate viewers choice. With so much love for their entertainment favourites, let The Game of Votes begin – and may the best Fandom win!
