The sights, sounds, flavours, and aromas of KwaZulu-Natal’s cosmopolitan city, Durban, will engulf Ekurhuleni in September 2018. An extravaganza of food, entertainment, and all-things-Durban takes place at Carnival City’s Sun Park on 8 and 9 September 2018. A family-friendly experience for all ages, there will be fun, food and more for all ages – it’s Durban Day in September!
Some of Durban’s colourful comedians, bands and DJs are on the bill for the two-day event. Car enthusiasts can also look forward to the Motor Show featuring SPL, Bass Boxing, and Show and Shine competitions as well as displays of muscle cars, classic cars, a Ford Festival, and exhibits by car dealers.
For the kids, there is a host of activities to enjoy such as giant inflatables, pony rides, a reptile show, bungee jumping, X-Box stations and more.
Some of the highlights of the entertainment schedule include the Blast from the Past LIVE Music Festival from 19h00 on 8 September, featuring the 13-year-old guitar maestro Saiyan Naidoo, the legendary Steve Fataar of ‘The Flames” as well as iconic 80s supergroup Tomorrows World who produced the club hit “Kalimba Party.”
The Durban Poison Comedy Festival takes place between 15h00 and 20h00 on Sunday 09 September, featuring Muthu Murugan, Senzo Mthethwa, Sagie Murugan, Logie Naidoo, Anesh Dusrath, Dr. Yash, Pravesh Mungaldave, Bash With Tash, Karou Charou, Karou Charou Junior, Shika Budhoo and pint-sized comics Hriday and Prerna.
To spice things up, there is a Bunny Chow between 10h00 and 17h00 on 8 September. The search is on for the best bunny in Jozi. Outlets which have entered the contest will showcase their bunnys before a panel of judges hosting master chef Deena Naidoo as the chief judge.
A Thunee Competition kicks off at 09h30 and ends at 17h00, also on 8 September. Thunee is a card game, indigenous to the Durban Indian population. Someone will earn the bragging rights to being Jozi’s Thunee King after this tough mini-tournaments winner is announced.
On the Sunday, the international artist Zeeshan Shani from Pakistan pays Tribute to Kishor Kumar & Kumar Sanu from 12h30.
