Toy brands come and go but not Disney. Disney is a brand I came to know and love from the time I was a little girl, way back in the eighties and of course, it existed long before then. Back then, a plush Mickey Mouse toy was on so many wish lists and of course, I had to get a few too. It’s no surprise that when Kayden was born, one of the very first plush toys we got for him, was Mickey Mouse. To this day, this is still a toy that in my opinion will never go out of fashion as it is so loved and how can it not be! In this post I am going to share more about #FromOurFamilyToYours

If you ever watched your child or even someone else’s child look at Mickey Mouse, you will relate to the joy that it brings children and even adults. For me, the love of the Disney brand started off with animations like Duck Tales, Mickey Mouse and Friends, Gummi Bears…the list goes on, there’s just so many to mention, to present times of how this brand has grown, from movies to series, etc. Have a look at the list here and I bet that you may not even know that some of these are under the Disney brand!

So why am I even mentioning all of this? Well, to be quite honest, these memories were triggered by a Press Release I received, which I will share below. It could not have come at a better time. I meant to post this about two weeks ago, but I realised that many of you celebrate Christmas on the 24th and 25th of December, even if not religiously, but the togetherness of loved ones.

The past week, more than ever, my personal Facebook newsfeed is sadly dominated by funeral notices and posts about loved ones of those near and dear who are in hospital or some of whom have even died, as a result of the Corona Virus. It seems to me that the new strain of this virus is spreading faster and it’s scary.

I feel that at a time like this and this festive season particularly, more than any other, we appreciate the magic of family, friends and togetherness. It’s something we may have taken for granted. When I think back to my Disney memories, they stem from my childhood – it’s associated with love, smiles and joy – when I think Disney, I think “magic”.

This video encapsulates this so well and I’m so touched by it…

The following is from the Press Release:

The heart-warming storyline is inspired by the themes of traditions, family togetherness and nostalgia, and introduces two new characters – a grandmother, Lola, and her granddaughter – alongside familiar friend Mickey Mouse who features as a much-loved toy, gifted to Lola as a young child by her father in 1940.  With each passing year, Mickey comes to symbolize Lola’s childhood and a present day connection to her granddaughter,  ultimately inspiring a festive surprise on Christmas morning.

The story is accompanied by the emotive vocals of UK artist and Ivor Novello Rising Star nominee, Griff (19), who performs ‘Love Is A Compass’, written by songwriting/production team, PARKWILD. To celebrate the theme of festive family traditions, Disney is encouraging fans to head to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to share their own past and present festive memories using #FestiveWithDisney and #FromOurFamilyToYours

#FromOurFamilyToYours is Disney Africa’s largest festive retail campaign to date and offers the perfect opportunity to stock up on those gifts for every member of the family – from stocking fillers, toys, apparel, books and so much more – featuring the very latest and greatest from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars.

UK artist Griff, who performs ‘Love Is A Compass’ said: “I was excited to get involved in Disney’s Christmas campaign. The lyrics of the track and the storytelling in the advert are powerful, and important. The theme of family and loved ones are so front of mind for many of us –  especially this Christmas.”

I know many of you are doing last minute Christmas shopping and even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, check out the variety of Disney products at your favourite retailer. Whilst I always and still do believe in presence over presents, if you are in a position to spoil loved ones, do just that and create some magic with this loved brand and to many, most loved brand, not just the toys, but the movies etc. that have and continue to bring people together. It’s the time to spend with family and loved ones, it’s magic, it’s Disney!

I’ve deliberately delayed this post as I know that many of you will be giving or receiving gifts over the next few days during this festive season and I encourage you to share posts of these precious memories. I say this with a lump in my throat, because quite often, I think of loved ones we have lost and don’t have enough photographic memories of. I know memories are etched in our minds and in the heart, but there’s just something so very special, when you look at a photo and it somehow magically takes you back to that place, person and moment.

My favorite festive memories with Disney is going to the video shop(old school VHS tapes, who remembers the be kind- rewind stickers) with my dad during the holidays, and we rented out a different video all weekend! We loved Beauty and the Beast so much my dad bought it for my and my sister one Christmas. And from then on every gift consisted of a movie included. We had a great stash of VHS tapes, then DVDs and I’m trying to vuild a collection for my kids as well. I still know all the songs of my favorite movies.. Alladin, lion king, alice in wonderland were also firm favorites growing up and i still watch it with my kids.

My dad was the biggest Disney lover I know. And he made sure I watched every Disney cartoon as a kid and growing up, and bought me the latest toys and accessories. He passed this Disney trend onto my little girl who now is obsessed with Disney and grandpa had made it tradition to sit down to good old Disney movies during the holidays. This year unfortunately little zara won’t be seeing grandpa due to covid. Hoping to win this for her to give her some sort of comfort.
