Almost any woman can give birth to a child. Does this make her a “MOTHER”?.  In my opinion, it takes a lot much more than that.  It takes a very special woman to be a “real mother”.  Let me elaborate further…

You don’t have to be a mother by giving birth to a child, yet you can be a “mother” just by possessing that maternal instinct.  You may be a mother to a homeless child, to a fatherless child, to a friend’s child, to a relative’s child – what matters most is your sincerity and genuine nurturing nature that makes you a motherly figure to these children.  Such mothers are often Exposed by their instinctive maternal attributes, which are very hard to hide.

When you make decisions that are in the best interest of your child/children, when you live your life planning ahead for them, when you can’t imagine your life without your children, you’re a very special mum. You may think this comes naturally, but sadly, not all “mothers” are this way.

To all the mothers out there that are single, either from being divorced, or never been married, or from losing your husband or boyfriend, respect goes out to you for doing it on your own. Don’t let this day be a sad one, instead be proud that you are doing it on your own.

To all the mothers out there who are raising someone else’s child/children, whether they are adopted, were homeless, are your stepchildren, are children of your friend or family’s, etc. you are also remembered on this day and are even more special, to have the heart to be a motherly figure to a child or children who are not even your own, yet you raise them like your own.

To all the grandmothers out there, who raised their children and their children’s children, hats off to them for making you the person you’ve become today.

To all the mothers that have lost children or unable to have children, my heart goes out to you. May you be strong on a day like Mother’s Day and find solace in all the other things you have in your life which makes you smile.

To all the mother-in-laws out there, who treat their daugther-in-laws and son-in-laws as if it were their own child, you are certainly cherished, remembered and celebrated on this day too.

To all the father’s who are playing the role of “mum” as well, you are also cherished on this day.

Bringing a life into this world is a huge responsibility and for all the mothers out there who take on this responsibility with pride, may you be blessed. Not forgetting the mothers to be.

In South Africa, Mother’s Day 2017 will be on the 14th of May. Where are you in the world and when is Mother’s Day in your country?
