Benefits of Playing with Action Figures for Child Development
It is a common known fact that children are stimulated and learn through play. With various movies and Television shows, like the Power Rangers Ninja Steel, children are exposed to different characters and in real life, are more actively involved in play when they are familiar with the character/s, which they may have seen on T.V.
Of course, these characters in the form of action figures can’t speak back to them but it is an advantage in the sense that it sparks up the imagination of the child, who reenact the character role and from that point on, with encouragement from a parent, builds onto the story-line.Creativity and the sense of imagination has no limits here.
This reminds me of my childhood, going back many, many years ago…my mom and her sisters went through a phase of Ninja movies and my cousin and I watched these movies with them. We used to then pretend that we were Ninjas. Oh yeah, we had black-belts and sometimes we were so good, that we “fought” blindfolded!
We used to play with nunchakus and Ninja stars, pretending to fight off the bad guys and protect each other. We could tell the good guys from the bad ones and without knowing it then, it honed in on good and bad values and taught us the significance of family and teamwork.
Later on, it made me feel confident to act in school plays and take on the role of whichever character in the school plays. It’s that practice that I had, had during play, which certainly contributed to me feeling comfortable to do so.
With that being said, I can attest to the fact that this isn’t just research but my personal experience of how play encourages learning and stimulates the sense of imagination.
The New Power Rangers Ninja Steel toys are in stores now!
In a world where almost everything is done digitally, even play – with toddlers, teens and adults fixated on their mobile devices – there is very little room for non-digital play. Call me old-fashioned, but this is one of the reasons I love these Action figures – if your child is a Power Ranger fan, then you should definitely read further.

Chiquita Patrizi, spokesperson for Prima Toys says that playing with action figures is a great way for children to use their imagination and built their imaginative skills. “Figures such as Power Rangers Ninja Steel provide the opportunity for children to create stories and situations. By doing this, they are honing their communications skills, developing speech and building a vocabulary. This type of play is also a lot of fun!” explains Patrizi.
Visit your nearest toy store or retailer to check out the mighty Power Rangers Ninja Steel range of toys, or go to www.primatoys.co.za for more information. The new range is ideal for boys aged five and up.
I have to say that I personally don’t think it’s just for boys, if I had a daughter, I would want her to play with these too. There are many girls that are into Superhero’s etc. So playing with these, may just be the wish of a few, if not many, little girls…not to mention adults too. They do make great collectors items and as you will see, are also great to photograph.
I received the Power Ranger 30cm Ninja Steel Figure and Ninja Training Weapons to review and here’s my thoughts:
- Great value for money
- Durable – paint doesn’t peel off
- Safe – even though the age restriction is 5 years and up, it’s safe enough for younger children, under supervision to use but I am no expert so please follow the safety instructions on the packaging
- Good Quality
- Nice size – not small like many action figures sometimes are
- The prices vary and sometimes huge differences between retailers, so please do shop around for the best price if you don’t want to pay double the amount at some places
- Power Ranger 30cm Ninja Steel Figure – can sit or stand or lie down. It’s head, legs and hands are movable
- I certainly recommend this as means of stimulation through play
