For those of you who know me, you know that I don’t usually swear right…but in some instances, and especially when I super duper love something…it somehow just is unavoidable as there really is no other way to express your joy and those were the kind of words that were on my mind last night. I was not planning on doing this review but after last’s night’s performance, of The Greatest Love of All:Whitney Houston Show. I am in awe, it was amazing, it was incredible! (yes, add some swear words to that) I was mind blown by the beautiful and mesmerizing voice of Belinda Davids. The performance by this woman was damn astounding!
I’m sorry for the reference to obscene language but I can’t help myself. When I got home last night, I couldn’t fall asleep as I was thinking of the experience I just had at the show. It is undoubtedly the best tribute show I have ever been to in my life and trust me when I say, I’ve been to lots. There are not many people that can hit those high notes that Whitney Houston did but Belinda Davids didn’t just pull it off…she nailed it…she freakin’ nailed it!
I got goosebumps and I even got emotional, even after so many years, through this show, the beautiful memories of Whitney Houston’s songs came alive. If you are a Whitney Houston fan, you will know that feeling you get when you listen to her music and you are probably thinking that this is just another tribute show…no it’s not just that, it is so much more, this is so close to the real thing, you will be amazed! You may even wonder if she was lip syncing! No, she wasn’t. Her stage persona was Magnifique. The voice, the passion and the love in the music of Whitney Houston lives on….through Belinda Davids
I could not help but think that Whitney Houston would surely have been proud of Belinda Davids. As a South African, I am truly proud of Belinda Davids who is of course proudly South African. If you want to read more about her or the show, check out my previous post, where I also shared what some of Whitney Houston songs and what they meant to me as I grew up.
This is a show worth seeing if you haven’t already bought your tickets, I suggest you hurry because judging from the feedback I got from those who I knew that attended, they’ve all shared that they too were in awe and so many have said that they want to watch it again, including myself!
It’s a pity that it’s not showing all over in South Africa, so if you are going to be visiting Gauteng over the next 3 weeks, please do yourself a favour and go and watch this show, you will not be disappointed.
Here are some of the highlights from the show which I uploaded to my very amateur YouTube channel. Excuse the quality, it’s cell phone footage. I just want to give you a glimpse of what to expect.
One of the winners of the Giveaway I ran for this show, Nivashani Anandham, said, “You know, watching Whitney Houston perform was something I would have loved to have seen. Top of the list of concerts I wish I could have seen. This woman blew me away and I had to keep reminding myself, she actually isn’t the real person.”
If you’ve been to the show, I would love to know what you thought of it, please share in the comments below.
